Insurance Careers Month – 2023

This February, for Insurance Careers Month, we will be focusing on the current trends and challenges facing the Insurance industry, and how Sentinel is built to address them. If you are interested in joining this industry in a fulfilling career, please visit our careers page to view our open opportunities.

Current Trends & Challenges Facing The Insurance Industry In 2023

Employment of insurance agents and brokers is projected to grow 6% from 2021 to 2031, about as fast as the average for all occupations. About 52,700 openings at insurance agents and brokers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. There is a war on talent today in the insurance industry, as more associates are leaving the industry than joining yearly as the current population ages to retirement.

Sentinel Is Built To Address These Trends & Challenges

Sentinel offers compelling career paths in compatibility with the individual associate’s skill areas including a dedication to continued learning and upskilling. We partner with all our associates to develop the skills and knowledge they need today and, in the future, to meet the industry demands. In addition, Sentinel is dedicated to flexible working arrangements through a hybrid office work model which encourages productivity and a healthy work/life balance.

Sentinel is truly an employer of choice with a clear Purpose, Vision, and Values, a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and accountability matching words with actions.

We're Looking To Add Talent To Our Team

We need to reconceptualize talent overall and reimagine how we evaluate candidates to better leverage skill-based criteria to increase the number and quality of candidates for each role. The “hard” skills of product knowledge can be taught. We are looking for the right “soft” skills: communication, time management and organization, adaptability, attention to detail, and problem-solving.

Many of our new team members have very little prior experience in insurance, yet they have transferable skills. We look at how potential employee’s skill sets can, with additional training and mentoring, be best utilized in the firm to meet the changing insurance landscape. We are focused on attracting and retaining talented individuals who can drive our industry forward in the years to come.

What Makes Sentinel Unique?

Unlike many of our competitors, Sentinel is committed to remain independent. We know that the future of our firm is strong and have committed to perpetuate internally versus selling down the road to Private Equity or a larger firm. Remaining independent allows Sentinel to maintain the entrepreneurial spirit upon which the firm was founded. Further, it allows us to continue to attract the best of the best, who want to leave their mark in the industry. At Sentinel, we empower success in our team with a culture and dedication that conglomerates, and bank owned firms, simply can’t duplicate.
